TIME reports that the UK Government is consistently failing British nationals arbitrarily detained overseas, including Reprieve client Jagtar Singh Johal, who was abducted and tortured in India just days after he got married.
The UK government did not even raise allegations that Jagtar had been tortured for seven months, his brother Gurpreet told TIME.
Almost six years later, the British government has still not sought Jagtar’s release, claiming that it is “not in his best interests.” More than 100 MPs and Peers recently called on the Prime Minister to intervene in his case.
