The US’s lethal drones programme is wrong. It is the death penalty without trial, without charges, and without any chance for a person to prove their innocence before getting killed. It is also counter-productive – undermining attempts to build stable, thriving societies.
‘Targets’ are identified on the basis of clumsy, flawed computer algorithms. People attacked by US drones have included acclaimed journalists, politicians and prominent peace activists.
But still lethal drones are used by the US government to target and kill people in places such as Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan. And European allies like Germany and the UK provide intelligence and logistical support – without which the US wouldn’t be able to operate its drones programme.
Reprieve is at the forefront of the fight against lethal drones. We investigate who really gets targeted and killed, we support innocent victims to bring legal cases, and we campaign to end the US’s lethal drones programme.
