A British-Iranian author who was detained in Iran for six years, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, has said that the UK government should have better protected both her and Jagtar Singh Johal and that ministers in London should be doing more for the Sikh human rights activist who is currently detained in India.
Jagtar’s brother Gurpreet told The BBC that Nazanin and her husband Richard Ratcliffe “understand, better than anyone, how painful it is that the UK government has failed to seek Jagtar’s release.”
“It doesn’t get any easier being separated from my brother, not even being able to talk to him regularly or know what he’s going through. We’ve been lucky to have the community’s support.”
