The Associated Press reports on several prominent British public figures urging Pakistani authorities to release Murad Akbar, a week after his arrest.
In a joint statement, former UK cabinet ministers, high-level law officers, journalists and legal rights groups including Reprieve expressed their belief that Akbar has been arbitrarily detained and called for his release. He has not been charged with any crime and he is the brother of Shahzad Akbar, a human rights lawyer and adviser to former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
