End The Death Penalty In the news

Black death row inmates’ executions botched twice rate of whites

A report released by Reprieve this month found that Black death row inmates suffer prolonged and painful botched executions at twice the rate of white death row inmates, reports The Guardian.

Commenting on the report Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren said it “underscores the racial injustice of capital punishment and is yet another reason Congress must abolish the death penalty once and for all.”

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley said, “the death penalty is racist, cruel and inhumane punishment that has no place in a just society. Capital punishment has disproportionately killed Black people in America and the lethal injection method has caused unconscionable suffering.”
