Reprieve client Jagtar Singh Johal has been moved to solitary confinement, despite being acquitted in one of nine almost identical cases against him in March reports The Guardian.
Jagtar’s brother Gurpreet told an all party committee on arbitrary detention at Westminster that his brother is being “mentally tortured.” He has not been granted bail, even though the prosecutor has failed to produce credible evidence or witnesses against him.
Reprieve’s deputy executive director Dan Dolan told the parliamentary group that the cases in India had been duplicated at the federal level to extend Jagtar’s ordeal, reports The Standard via Press Association.
Dolan told the BBC that an Indian court has found Jagtar not guilty and that “it’s time for the British government to capitalise on that moment and say ‘we need to bring him home now’.”
