US linked to Yemeni torture prisons: Reprieve comment

By June 22, 2017 No Comments

The Trump Administration has been mixed up in a secret network of prisons in southern Yemen where abuse is routine and torture extreme, Associated Press has reported.

Commenting, Shelby Sullivan-Bennis, Reprieve US attorney specializing in counter-terrorism abuses, said:

“The revelation of US involvement in Yemen’s secret prison network is an international disgrace and raises serious questions for President Trump.

“Is the US running a secret ‘proxy detention’ program? Are American agents slipping questions under the torture chamber door? Is the Trump Administration relying upon information tortured out of individuals ‘roasted on the spit’ for the ill-advised military operations that have killed Americans and innocent Yemenis?

“President Trump must learn that torture doesn’t work and only hardens hearts and minds against us.”
