No one should be detained without charge or trial.
It’s a fundamental principle of justice. It should be upheld all over the world, but it’s not. Thousands of people – the majority of them children – are currently held indefinitely in North East Syria (NES).
They are stuck in a legal black hole.
Families are held in detention camps there from around the world. Many governments – including the UK, France, Germany and Sweden – currently refuse to bring their nationals home. This refusal is creating a security and humanitarian nightmare.
That’s why we are fighting for the repatriation of families from NES. Where there are charges to answer to, their home justice system is best-placed to hold adult family members to account.
