The Daily <\/a>Express<\/a> was among the many media outlets to report on the European Court of Human Rights taking up Shamima Begum’s case. She is challenging the UK Government’s decision to strip her British citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis case only reached the European court because successive UK governments failed to take simple steps to resolve a common problem,” said Reprieve CEO Maya Foa. “While our security allies have all been bringing their people home, Britain has been burying its head in the sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Casting British men, women and children into a legal black hole is a negligent policy that betrays a lack of faith in our justice system. The expense of fighting these lengthy legal battles could have been avoided by simply repatriating these families, investigating trafficking and other ISIS crimes, and prosecuting the adults where appropriate. British courts are vastly experienced and well-equipped to handle this task \u2013 outsourcing the problem to others is a glaring admission of weakness.\u201d
