The Scottish Secretary has said that the release of Jagtar Singh Johal <\/a>is “right at the top of the agenda” ahead of talks between Sir Keir Starmer and Narendra Modi in London where the two prime ministers are meeting to sign a trade deal between the two countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ian Murray went on to say that the Government<\/a> were doing everything they could to resolve Jagtar’s case, reports the <\/a>Times<\/a>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reprieve’s interim deputy executive director Dan Dolan said: \u201cJagtar has been found not guilty of the allegations against him, and it should be a priority for Keir Starmer to secure his release and return to Britain.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrying him again for the same crime, on the same evidence, is prohibited in India\u2019s constitution and in international law. This is a clear-cut case of double jeopardy and it is in everyone\u2019s interests to see it resolved. This week\u2019s talks are a rare chance to make progress at the very highest level.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
