Foreign Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/reprieve.org\/uk\/2025\/05\/01\/117-mps-peers-press-david-lammy-for-decisive-action-to-bring-jagtar-home\/\">David Lammy <\/a>has said that &#8220;resolving the case is a priority for this government.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gurpreet added: \u201cOver the last eight years, I\u2019ve grown very tired of fine words and weak excuses for a lack of action, while my brother grows old in prison. The time is now \u2013 it would be devastating if the Prime Minister lets this golden opportunity slip away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reprieve&#8217;s interim deputy executive director Dan Dolan told the Independent that it should be a priority for Keir Starmer to secure Jagtar&#8217;s release and return to Britain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTrying him again for the same crime, on the same evidence, is prohibited in India\u2019s constitution and in international law. This is a clear cut case of <a href=\"https:\/\/reprieve.org\/uk\/2025\/03\/08\/bbc-sets-out-lack-of-evidence-behind-not-guilty-verdict-in-jagtar-singh-johals-case\/\">double jeopardy<\/a> and it is in everyone\u2019s interests to see it resolved.
