11 Yemeni men have been transferred out of Guantanamo Bay to Oman after more than two decades without charge or trial<\/a>, reports The Washington Post.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the 11, former Reprieve client Khalid Qasim, is an artist<\/a> and during his time in detention had an exhibition of his work in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Wilner, one of Qasim\u2019s lawyers, said he was \u201coverjoyed that Khalid is a free man\u201d but condemned what he called the \u201cappalling injustice\u201d of his imprisonment without trial. \u201cThe torture he was subjected to over his two decades of detention without trial shames the United States of America,\u201d Wilner said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement published by CNN<\/a> Reprieve said that Khalid was \u201csubjected to severe torture and mistreatment, initially at Bagram airbase, then Kandahar and Guant\u00e1namo, including beatings, sleep deprivation, extreme isolation, exposure to freezing temperatures, forced standing and stress positions.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
