The meeting is taking place as the Kingdom hits a record number of executions in a calendar year. It was recently denied a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;When Boris Johnson visited Mohammed bin Salman in 2022, three days after the mass execution of 81 people, Sir Keir Starmer was rightly scathing of Johnson&#8217;s unconditional embrace of one of the world&#8217;s most prolific executioners of protesters,&#8221; Reprieve&#8217;s deputy executive director Dan Dolan told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-14173827\/Keir-Starmer-arrives-talks-Saudi-ruler-Mohammed-bin-Salman-vowing-prioritise-UK-economy-human-rights-despite-previously-blasting-Boris-Johnson-going-cap-hand-dictator-dictator.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Daily Mail.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Now he is the PM, he has the opportunity to address the escalating execution crisis in Saudi Arabia.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If he publicly raises the cases of child defendants Abdullah al-Howaiti and Abdullah al-Derazi when he meets with the Crown Prince, he could save their lives.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Sir Keir Starmer said that his &#8220;number one mission&#8221; during the talks was economic growth &#8211; but that he would still raise <a href=\"https:\/\/reprieve.org\/uk\/2024\/09\/28\/saudi-arabia-smashes-grim-execution-record-killing-198-people-in-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saudi Arabia&#8217;s human rights record<\/a>, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/keir-starmer-saudi-arabia-jamal-khashoggi-prime-minister-crown-prince-b2661415.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Independent.<\/a> In a statement reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/sir-keir-starmer-to-visit-gulf-as-he-seeks-stronger-economic-and-defence-ties-with-uae-and-saudi-arabia-13269330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sky news<\/a>, Number 10 said that <a href=\"https:\/\/reprieve.org\/uk\/2024\/10\/06\/saudi-arabia-hits-record-execution-figures-under-reformist-prince\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saudi Arabia<\/a> and the United Arab Emirates, where Starmer was also visiting, were among Britain&#8217;s &#8220;most vital modern-day partners.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reprieve has pressed the Prime Minister to raise the cases of child defendants in Saudi Arabia ahead of talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh.
