Iraq has offered to try foreigners currently held in Syria for the price of $2m per year per head – a figure calculated based on the cost of keeping a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay, according to the AFP<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Commenting, Reprieve Director Maya Foa<\/strong>, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThese reports raise the gravest spectres of the failed war on terror. The Government has truly learned nothing if it allows people to be rendered to Iraq\u2019s death row for the price per-head of keeping a prisoner at Guantanamo. Rather than dusting off the disastrous post-9\/11 playbook, the Government should repatriate British nationals held in Syria so that they can be tried in UK courts wherever there are charges to answer\u201d.<\/p>\n
