Alan is a prominent actor and playwright who has written extensively for stage, film, television and radio. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His first foray into theatre was the satirical revue Beyond the Fringe, which he co-wrote and performed in at the 1960 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The production was a great success with critics and audiences alike, and subsequently travelled to London and New York. Since this success he has become one of the leading British dramatists of his generation. His work includes the television series Talking Heads, the stage plays Forty Years On, The Lady in the Van and The Madness of King George III and the best-selling memoir Untold Stories. Alan Bennett has won several prestigious awards for his writing. Talking Heads won eight BAFTAs in 1989 and the critically-acclaimed The History Boys won three Laurence Olivier Awards and six Tony Awards before being made into a film in 2006.
