No one should be detained without charge or trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s a fundamental principle of justice. It should be upheld all over the world, but it\u2019s not. Thousands of people \u2013 the majority of them children \u2013 are currently held indefinitely in North East Syria (NES).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are stuck in a legal black hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We estimate that there are a handful of British families held in detention camps there, as well as many other families from around the world. Many governments – including the UK, France, Germany and Sweden – currently refuse to bring their nationals home. This refusal is creating a security and humanitarian nightmare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s why we are fighting for the repatriation of families from NES. Where there are charges to answer to, their home justice system is best-placed to hold adult family members to account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
