It was revealed in the Times that British national Jagtar Singh Johal is facing a death sentence in India, after Reprieve wrote to the Foreign Office to raise concerns.
Jagtar was abducted by plainclothes police in 2017 and severely tortured into making a false ‘confession’ to involvement in a plot to kill Hindu leaders. This was broadcast on national television, underscoring the political nature of the case. This unfair trial by media is the only trial he has received so far.
